New research by Halifax has pinpointed the most expensive street in
Britain, based on housing transactions between 2004 and 2008.
The Vale in the royal borough of Kensington and Chelsea was
discovered to have an average cost over this period of
£4,677,500.
Exactly half of Britain's 50 most expensive streets were found to
be in the borough by the research.
Poole in Dorset has the most expensive street outside London, while
the most costly road to live on in the north is in Alderley Edge in
Cheshire.
Commenting on the price of housing in Kensington and Chelsea,
Halifax chief economist Martin Ellis stated: "In recent years, its
prime location in central London has attracted affluent celebrities
and ultra wealthy foreign businessmen helping to drive up house
prices."
The overall average price in the borough is £835,935,
according to Land Registry figures.
